Enabling your Camera and Microphone for Web-Based Meetings (Lifesize, Teams, Zoom)
When you join a video meeting through a website URL, there is the possibility that the browser settings will block the website’s request to use the camera and microphone on your computer.
Usually, you will be prompted to allow this behavior, but this prompt may show up very briefly, or is easily missed.
If it occurs that after you have joined a meeting through the website and cannot see or hear other participants, the first thing to check is the browser settings for the website.
Here is how you can check the browser settings (in Chrome.)
- Open the settings by clicking the Settings Icon.
- This is usually represented by 3 vertical dots:

- Choose the settings option:
- Choose Privacy and Security:
- And then Choose Site settings:
- Find the website that you want to allow access, and click on the right arrow to expand the permissions for that site:
- Set the Camera and Microphone to “Allow.”
- If you want to check that the website can use your camera, use the video and audio settings link on the website:
- You should see your computer’s camera, Mic, and speaker defaults listed, if you need to change to a different device located on your computer, click the drop down button on the right to select it:
- If you don’t see the correct device, make sure that it is connected to your computer. Generally, unplugging the device (USB) and plugging it back in should get the device connected. You will hear the USB beeping sound if Windows correctly loads the device.
- It is possible that you will need to reload the webpage after adding the device or changing the website settings.
- Although these instructions show the Lifesize Webapp accessed through the Chrome browser, most of the settings are similar in other browsers and webapps. (For example, in the Edge browser the Settings icon is three horizontal dots, instead of three vertical dots.)
